How OUR offset magazine printing PROCESS works
Offset printing (also referred to as lithography) is a printing method that employs a large printing press that contains printing plates which transfer ink onto paper. After printing, the paper is cut, folded, and finally bound into a final finished product.
Many options are available during the process:

Magazine paper stock options
Typically, paper gets graded on a scale of one to five: one is the best quality (very bright white), five is the worst (usually showing with a yellow tint). Most of our local Dallas customers lean towards standard magazine paper, which usually has a grade of three. Some publishers also choose higher grade paper for outer pages, and lower-grade paper for inner pages.
Aside from the paper, here are the three most preferred finish types:
Aside from the paper, here are the three most preferred finish types:
- Gloss: most magazines are printed using this option. Gloss papers are coated to give them a shiny look that makes colors pop. These are less opaque, lighter and cheaper than dull or matte papers.
- Dull: low-gloss smooth paper that falls between matte and glossy.
- Matte: this non-glossy paper is more expensive, and tends to give printed products a higher-end, more elegant feel.
Magazine binding style options
There are a few options regarding how your magazine project will be bound:
- Perfect-bound: this creates a square-edge look that is popular with thick popular magazines, although even magazines with small word counts can use this method.
- Saddle-bound: this process uses a pair of staples to tie together each book. There are no minimum page counts for this process, but thicker publications will need to use a different method.
- Spiral-bound: this uses a set of coils woven through holes punched in the paper. This method is popular with notebooks, cookbooks, and other books that need to be laid flat to give instruction to the reader. Be warned that spiral binding is much more expensive than both the perfect-bound and saddle-bound options.
Printed Brochures and Catalogs
Aside from magazine printing, our services can also be used for publications with smaller dimensions or page counts. Two popular options:
- Affordable catalogs: cheaper than magazine printing with smaller page counts, but offering a similar level of options as full-blown magazine prints
- Cheap booklets and brochures: options include a range of ink, coating and lamination options
